What is your position at Foothills and how long have you had this position? I am the Sr. Pastor of the church and have been for almost 23 years.

Tell us a little bit about your childhood and family. I was born in 1949 in Holland, Michigan into a Dutch family and had two older sisters. It was a Christian home. Dad served in vocational ministry as a home missionary, pastor, and evangelist. We were Fundamentalists! I met the girl of my dreams, Janice Ann Nicholson, in college and married her in 1973.

What about education? I attended Wheaton College, Grand Rapids Baptist College and Seminary (now Cornerstone University), Dallas Seminary, and Denver Seminary. I got my Bachelor’s in 1972 and my Master’s in 1980, and still trying to complete the Doctorate.

Where else have you ministered? I was a youth pastor in two different Michigan churches for two years. I later served as Sr. Pastor in a Michigan church for seven years. I had a brief teaching stint at Western Bible College (now Colorado Christian University) in Morrison Colorado from 1983 – 1985.

What are your hobbies? I enjoy reading, golfing, computing and cleaning.

What is your position at Foothills and what does that entail? My title is Shepherding Pastor. I am responsible for shepherding, training, accountability, conflict resolution, vision implementation and encouragement of the staff of FBC. I am also responsible for the leadership and direction of the “caring” ministries within the church.

 Tell me about your family. My wife, Robin and I will soon celebrate our 26th wedding anniversary. We have three daughters: Kathryn who is 20 years old, Sarah, who is 18 and Laura, who is 8. Our oldest daughter married Matthew Ditson on May 31, 2008 and Sarah graduated from high school that same month.

What is your educational and ministry background? I graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration from East Carolina University and from Denver Seminary with a degree in Youth and Family Studies. I worked with Campus Crusade for three years before coming to Foothills. I came to FBC in 1985 where I began as a volunteer in the youth program. I eventually became the youth pastor where I served for five years. In 1994 I became the Adult Ministry and Care Pastor and in 2005 I began serving as the Shepherding Pastor. I’m also a part of the Senior Staff, serving alongside Lou Butler and Pastor Bill.

What do you like to do in your spare time? I love spending time with my family. I enjoy biking, reading, going to spinning class and running. I also enjoy reading anything I can get my hands on regarding the Civil War. Go ahead; ask me a question about the war!

Lou Butler

What is your position at the church and what does that entail? My title is Director of Operations. I am responsible for staff oversight in the areas of administration, policies, and procedures, and day-to-day church operations. I am also responsible for the management and supervision of the accounting, finance, personnel, facilities, office and administration, communications, and computer and telephone systems functions. I’m also a part of the Senior Staff, serving alongside Pastors Bill and Ken.

Tell us about your family. My wife, Elaine and I have been married for almost 28 years. We have two married daughters and one grandson. Amanda, our oldest is married to David Purvis and they have little Tre, who was born on July 18, 2006. Our youngest daughter, Sydney was recently married to Josh Kucharyson. They are both college students in Ft. Collins, Colorado.

What is your vocational background? I have held various staff and management positions with Mobil Oil Company in Denver, Dallas and Fairfax. This included accounting, financial analysis, contract administration and planning positions. After leaving Mobil, my family and I returned to Colorado where I served as executive director of Vision West Media – a Colorado based video production company.

When did you come to Foothills and where have you served here? My family and I began attending FBC in 1996. I began volunteering in multi-media the following year and early in 1999 I was hired as an employee. I also enjoyed participating and leading Student Ministries Short Term Missions trips while my daughters were students at FBC.

Tell us about your education. I have my B.S. degree in accounting from the University Of Colorado College Of Business.

What do you do for enjoyment? Elaine and I enjoy traveling, missions and exercising.  I like to coach and I enjoy music.

Pastors

Jeff Baxter PhotoPastor Jeff Baxter

What is your position at Foothills and how long have you had this position? Pastor of Singles and Student Ministries, started May 1, 2008.

Tell us a little bit about your childhood and family. I grew up in southwest Michigan and enjoyed playing soccer, basketball and tennis. I am the youngest of four siblings.  My wife, Laurie and I have been married since August of 1994 (you do the math) and have three beautiful children, Lillian, Levi and Lara. It is a joy to see how God has uniquely designed them already in their young age. We also have a chocolate lab named Mocha Noel...who thinks she's our first child.  

What about education? I graduated from Hope College (B. A. in Education), Columbia International University (M.Div.) and Fuller Theological Seminary where I received my Doctor of Ministry in youth and family ministry. I love to learn and read about theology, culture, the Church and the next generation. Putting it into practice continues to be my never-ending challenge, especially as my own children grow up.

Where else have you ministered? I have served in pastoral roles in other churches and speaking roles in parachurch ministries before coming to Foothills. I have been honored to travel to several countries around the world on leadership and mission trips with youth, college students and other adults. In addition, I am finishing my first book with Zondervan called, "Following Jesus into College and Beyond" available in February '09. This is a God-story...ask me.

What are your hobbies? I love to spend time with Laurie and the kids walking, hiking, wrestling, and playing inside and outside together! Laurie and I enjoy going to coffee shops and bookstores...not to mention we now enjoy the cyberworld of Facebook and do have some real friends, too! I collect soccer jerseys from around the world (25+ to date).

How long have you been married? Jill and I have been married for thirteen wonderful years!  I’m looking forward to growing old with my best friend!

Do you have any children? We have been blessed with two wonderful children, Mariah, our precocious 7 year old, and Caleb, our energetic 5 year old.

Where did you live growing up? My dad was in the Army and while I spent a few of my childhood years in Japan, Kansas City, and Washington DC, I spent most of my time as a child and teenager in Colorado Springs.

Where did you study? I spent four years of my life (and way too much money!) at Sterling College in Sterling, Kansas (where I met Jill), two years at the Colorado School of Mines, and five at Denver Seminary.

Where have you ministered in the past? I started off in ministry serving as a Youth Pastor in a small church in Tallahassee, Florida.  After that I spent nearly six years serving in various roles in the Student Ministries at Foothills Bible Church.  Before returning to Foothills this past summer, I served as an Associate Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Independence, Kansas for seven years.

What do you like to do for fun and hobbies? I love spending time with my family!  There’s nothing like a day full of drinking coffee with Jill, tickling Caleb, and playing games with Mariah.  I also enjoy numerous sports and activities such as hiking, biking, skiing, camping, fishing, hunting, football, volleyball, basketball, traveling, geocaching, playing the guitar, and working with my hands.

What is your position at Foothills and what does that entail?
I am pastor of Adult Ministries. My position is responsible for the development and leadership of the membership process, adult education ministries and the shepherding structures for the church at large. My position also provides pastoral support and oversight to the young singles, men’s ministries, and church library. My passion is to see the church grow and go deeper in the Word of God.

How long have you been at FBC? I began serving at Foothills in February of 2004.

Tell us about your family: My wife, Karen and I have been married for 27 years. We have four sons: Daniel - 26 years, David – 23 years, Michael – 20 years and Matthew – 19 years.

What is your educational training and ministry background? I am a graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary (ThM ’88). I have my DMin degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. I served in churches in Plano, TX, Fort Collins, CO and St. Charles, IL.

What do you like to do for fun? Our whole family loves the mountains, and especially skiing.

Joyce Feil, Missions Director

What is your position at Foothills and what does that entail? I am the Missions Director at Foothills Bible Church. I am responsible for providing direction, recruiting, and oversight for missions.  I work with volunteer teams for the organization, promotion, and education of the church regarding missions and Foothill’s missionaries.  I also work closely with the missions committee and missionary care team.

 Tell us about your family growing up. I am the middle child of three with an older brother and younger sister. We were missionaries in Brazil where my parents ran an orphanage.

 Tell us about your husband and children. My husband, Doug and I will celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary this year. We have three daughters: Naomi, 22 years, Rachel, 20 years and Caryn 16 years.

How long have you been attending FBC and when did you become the Missions Director? We have attended Foothills for 13 years and I have been employed by the church for 9 years.

What is your background in ministry? I have spent my entire life in missions, as an MK, single missionary, I married a missionary, co-founded Missionary Care Services with my husband, worked at a missions agency, and served the church in missions for 25 years.

What is your educational background? I have a degree in Christian Leadership.

What are you hobbies or interests? I am a photographer, scrapbooker and equestrian.

Kim Sellars

What is your position at Foothills and what does that entail? I am the Director of Women’s Ministries.  I am responsible for the development and leadership of the FBC women’s ministries.  This includes the vision, mobilization, training, shepherding care and counsel to the women of FBC and the surrounding local community.  I also provide mentoring and guidance for the associated paid and volunteer staff.  I work closely with the leadership team of FBC and help fulfill the mission and vision of the church.

 Tell me about your family and where you grew up. I grew up in Colorado Springs and graduated in 1982 from Air Academy High School.  It’s so wonderful to be back in the area after 27 years. My husband Dave and I have been married 16 years.  Dave, a pilot, recently retired from the Air Force and we have two awesome boys/ young men.  Christian, 13 loves roller coasters and any thrill seeking adventure.  Aaron will be 11 in March and is into all sports, but excels at soccer and baseball.

Where did you study, and where have you ministered? I spent 2 years at Pensacola Christian College in Florida, and then transferred all the way to Oregon.  I have a Bachelor of Science Degree from Western Baptist College in Salem Oregon. In 1999 I started ministering to women and teaching Bible study.  In 2003 I was the Bible study coordinator for a large church in Illinois and in 2004, accepted the position for the Director of Women’s Ministry at First Baptist Church in O’Fallon IL.

What do you like to do in your spare time? I love to travel with my husband and two sons. We have been so blessed to see a lot of Europe together.  I also enjoy cooking and going to coffee with girlfriends.

 

Daniel Sesay

Daniel Sesay, Director of Worship

What is your position at Foothills and how long have you had this position? I began this position the 1st of December 2007.

Tell us a little bit about your childhood and family. I was born and raised in Freetown, Sierra Leone in West Africa.  I am the youngest of eight children.  My dad still lives in Freetown and is 85 years old.  I have one brother and three sisters living in the Delaware / Philadelphia area. My wife, Erica and I moved to Colorado in 1994 and we now have two girls: Keisha who is 10 and Cierra who is 8. 

What about education? I attended Colorado Christian University from ’94-’98.  I graduated with a Bachelor’s in Music Ministry. 

Where else have you ministered? I spent almost ten years at Applewood Community Church in Golden, CO. 

What are your hobbies? I love to write and play music, travel (when affordable); and watch movies.  My favorite movie is Shawshank Redemption!

Lauri Cole

Lauri Cole, Children's Ministry DirectorWhat is your position at Foothills and what does that entail?  My title is Director of Children’s Ministry.  I am responsible for overseeing the ministry to children from birth to sixth grade. I am given the privilege to shepherding the Children’s Ministry staff in all of their areas of service.  I am responsible for casting the vision for reaching the children and parents of this community with the hope and love of Jesus.

Tell me about your family.  My husband Steve and I will be married for 23 years in July of 2009.  We have three fantastic boys. Tyler is 20, pursuing a degree in teaching at Metro State.  Drew is 17, pursuing football at D'Evelyn High School and Grant is 12, pursuing the drums and piano playing.

What is your educational and ministry background?  I have a degree in Social work with an emphasis on child development.  I have volunteered in many areas of the church having to do with children/youth.  I had the chance to help start the MOPS program at our church 17 years ago.

What do you like to do in your spare time?  I love spending time with my family traveling.  We have had the blessing of seeing Hawaii, Canada, and Australia together.  I also love to spend time reading and chatting with friends.
